What are cookies?
A cookie is a small text file that our website saves via your web-browser on your computer or mobile device when you visit the site. The cookie-text file may contain some data about your visit on each website : username, session identifier, user choice ... or anything else. It is stored on your computer through your browser and will not be deleted until the expire date, or if you have asked your browser to delete them. A cookie can be thought of as an internet user's identification card, which tells our website when the user has returned.
Are cookies dangerous?
No. Cookies are small pieces of text. They are not computer programs, and they can't be executed as code. Also, they cannot be used to disseminate viruses.
Why do we use cookies?
They enable the website to remember your actions and preferences (such as login details, local language and/or other display preferences) over a period of time, so you don’t have to keep re-entering them whenever you come back to the site or browse from one page to another. Additionally, it allows the Site or a third-party to recognise you, while making your next visit easier and the Site more useful to you. Sometimes we may use tracking pixels, which are small graphic files linked to our servers that allow us to track your usage over our Site and on related functionalities. Cookies and tracking pixels allow us to serve you better and more efficiently, and to personalize your experience on our Site.
General Categories of cookies
In general, every large website creates several kinds of cookies when you visit any site anywhere in the world. The WCG Project uses both session and persistent cookies on its Site and it uses different types of cookies to run the Site.
Here are some terms used to categorise cookies:
Essential cookies
Strictly necessary cookies are essential for the operation of the Site in order to enable you to move around the website and use its features, such as accessing secure areas, authenticating users and preventing fraudulent use of user accounts. Without these cookies, the Site may not be fully functional.
Non-essential cookies: Performance Cookies
Performance cookies help The WCG Project improve the way our Site works. We use Google Analytics cookies to collect information about how visitors use our website. These cookies collect information about how visitors navigate through our website, for instance: which pages do visitors visit more often? visit, Do visitors get error messages from any web pages? Google Analytics anonymizes IP addresses. The anonymized data is transmitted to and stored by Google on its servers. As a result, these cookies don’t collect information that identifies a visitor. It is only used to improve how a website works. See the Cookie Policy of Google: Google Privacy Policies↗
We also use Matomo web analytics/statistics. You can find more information about Matomo's policy at: Matomo Website Privacy Policy
Non-essential cookies: Functionality cookies.
Functionality cookies are used to recognise you when you return to our Site. This allows us to personalise the content for you, greet you by name, and remember your preferences (for example, your choice of language or region). Also, they can be used to provide more personal services like to present feeds or/and iframes by third parties.
Advertising/Targeting cookies
Advertising/Targeting cookies limit the number of times you see an advertisement and measure the effectiveness of our digital advertising campaigns. They are also used to deliver more relevant adverts according to your interests. They allow you to limit the number of times an ad is displayed to you and help measure the effectiveness of the advertising campaign. They are usually placed by advertising networks with the website operator’s permission. They are also used to remember that you have visited a website, and this information is shared with other organisations such as advertisers. Quite often advertising or targeting cookies will be linked to site functionality provided by the other organisation. In any case, the third-party ads providers have been evaluated and act under the requirements of the GDPR.
We use Google AdSense to handle advertisement campaigns. You can read more information about AdSense and their advertizers at Google AdSense Transparency↗ .
What are your choices regarding cookies
We do not require that you accept non-essential cookies. If you do accept our use of non-essential cookies, you can withdraw your consent or adjust your browser’s privacy settings at any time. Please note that blocking of essential cookies may cause some of the Sites’ functionality to not be available, or to not work properly.
