AI-songs Set 2
The Leaden Canopy

Song Set

The following songs are from my protest music set 2: The Leaden Canopy.
With this set of 4 songs, I wanted to create a musical story about the global destruction of forests and the disappearance of animals.

Musical Genre / Style / Mood

With the first melancholic track (1. The Leaden Canopy) I tried to generate a woman's voice singing a sad song about dwindling forests.

With the second track (2. Ghost of the Canopy) I changed one sentence to emphasize what not-to-do (with angry mood).

With the two next tracks (3. and 4: Blackwood Prayer v1 and v2) I tried to make the music even more mournful.

Song Text

I re-used some of my text from my book site.
With help of Microsoft Copilot I prepared my text-fragments to become song texts for my AI-generated music.
The songs have similar lyrics, but with some differences in certain sentences, or in the order of verses, or deployment of instruments.

All 4 songs are sung by a female voice.

Lyrics of songs:

1. The Leaden Canopy v1

LYRICS-BEGIN:
[Instrumental intro]
Bass violin, guitar

[Verse 1 female]
The bracken curls in sepia,
a skeletal retreat.
The ancient chorus hollowed out,
a silence so complete.
The root and vein are fallow now,
beneath a leaden sky.
The green is just a memory,
too tired to even sigh.

[female and choir]
O, the ghost of the canopy.
(O, the ghost of the canopy!)
Where the choir used to be.
(Where the choir used to be!)
In the echo of the timber.
(In the echo of the timber!)
In the shadow of the knee!
Let the sorrow turn to timber.
Let the marrow turn to stone.
We are standing in the hollow.
And we're mourning all alone.

[Verse 2 female]
The needle and the broadleaf,
are folded in the dust.
The iron wind is howling,
in the kingdom of the rust.
No birdsong in the winter,
no sap inside the core.
The ancient chorus fading,
forever, evermore.

[female and choir]
Fallow...
(Fallow...)
Hollow...
(Hollow...)
Sepia...
(Sepia...)

2:57 min.
LYRICS-END.

2. Ghost of the Canopy

LYRICS-BEGIN:
The song text is nearly the same as '1. The Leaden Canopy', with one difference: negations:

Don't let the sorrow turn to timber!
Don't let the marrow turn to stone!

2:42 min.
LYRICS-END.

3. Blackwood Prayer v1

LYRICS-BEGIN:
[Intrumental intro]
Guitar and female vocals.

[Verse 1 female]
I walked in the pines
with my hands full of rain.
The moss knew my name
but the trunks looked in pain

The creek held its breath
under roots gone thin
And the beetles went quiet
where the shade had been

[Pre-Chorus]
There were seeds in the mud.
There were songs in the bark.
Now the stumps stand open,
like a wound in the dark.

[Chorus]
Who took the green from the ground? (who took it away?)
Who left the deer with no sound? (no sound, no sound)
I hear you.
I hear you.

Forest, forgive us now.
Forest, forgive us now.
We came with too many hands.
And we broke your crown.

[Verse 2]
The birds kept returning
to a branchless home.
They circled the smoke
like a prayer in bone.

The fox at the edge
watched the hills go bare.
Even the moon looked tired
hanging thin in the air.

[Pre-Chorus]
There were nests in the fern.
There were eggs in the shade.
Now the wind drags ash
through the beds that we made.

[Chorus]
Who took the green from the ground? (who took it away?)
Who left the deer with no sound? (no sound, no sound)
I hear you.
I hear you.

Forest, forgive us now.
Forest, forgive us now.
We came with too many hands.
And we broke your crown.

[Bridge]
And I rage
at our hunger
at our need
at the feeding
of a thousand empty mouths
with the ribs of the mountain

I rage
for the owl
for the ant
for the river
for the fallen black bark
for the breath we took
and never gave back.

[Final Chorus]
Who took the green from the ground? (who took it away?)
Who left the deer with no sound? (no sound, no sound)
I hear you.
I hear you.

Forest, forgive us now.
Forest, forgive us now.
We came with too many hands
And we broke your crown.

Forest, forgive us now.
Forest, forgive us now.
I sing for the ash.
I sing for the crown.

6:42 min.
LYRICS-END.

4. Blackwood Prayer v2

LYRICS-BEGIN:

Blackwood Prayer v2 has the same lyrics as version 1.
Song ends with the sorrowful female vocals.

5:56 min.
LYRICS-END.
